Mirren Fredrickson held an Art Enrichment and Extension group last term. Schools from the region were invited by the Newmarket Viaduct development to produce A0 sized pieces of art to decorate the sidings under the viaduct construction site. Here is the result! It is a collage depicting the many facets of our school.

Our School's Enrichment and Extension Programmes |
At Victoria Avenue School all class programmes are differentiated to ensure that teaching and learning experiences are tailored to meet the needs of individuals. This is facilitated in a number of ways such as:
- class enrichment programmes for all students such as thinking skills and inquiry learning
- ability grouping of students in core curriculum areas eg: cross grouping in numeracy in Years 3-6
Selection of students is based on a range of criteria. Teachers consider students who show exceptional achievement in standardised tests and a range of class tasks, as well as students who demonstrate creativity, and task commitment.
Each term a range of enrichment and extension programmes are offered to students to meet the needs that have been identified. These include:
- Weekly literacy groups (Years 2-6)
- Numeracy extension groups (Years 2-6)
- Otago Maths Problem Solving Challenge (Year 6)
- Inquiry Based Learning extension groups (Years 2-6)
- Visual Art Extension groups (Years 2-6)
A number of additional opportunities are also available to meet the varied sporting and cultural interests and talents of the students at our school. These include:
- Choir
- APPA Speech/Lions Speech Competitions
- Orchestra
- Zone and Interschool sporting events
- Kapa Haka
