Dear Parents
There has been great excitement for our youngest pupils this week as Room 11 and Room 13 have moved into their new classrooms. It was a real team effort on Monday as staff, parents and older pupils helped move furniture, books and resources down to the new locations ready for the children to start moving in on Tuesday.
Everyone agrees that our builders have done a fantastic job, the rooms look amazing and the children now have the best seats in the house. Ms Andrews now tells me that all is missing is some furniture for her back deck and a fridge for refreshments! There has also been great progress made on the two additional classrooms with framing and roof trusses erected in the last couple of days under the watchful eyes of our five year old future engineers!
I am sure that if you want to take a peek into these new rooms you will have no shortage of proud children to show you around.
Mrs Slater
As many of you are aware Mrs Slater retired at the beginning of the year after suffering a stroke at the end of 2009. Her recovery has been slow but steady and we are greatly looking forward to seeing her back at school as a visitor soon.
We have wanted to find an appropriate time to ‘officially’ say our goodbyes and celebrate Sue’s twenty three years of service at VAS. I know that many parents and ex-parents will also want to thank Sue for boundless energy, passion and enthusiasm that she has given to generations of VAS pupils.
In discussion with Sue we have arranged two events. Firstly on June 18th the school will be holding a special “thank you” assembly. This event is for staff and pupils only. As you are aware we are severely restricted for space in the hall and cannot accommodate the parents who might also like to attend.
In Term Three we have invited Sue to officially open our new Junior School classrooms. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled, which will acknowledge Sue. Following the opening, refreshments will be served, to which parents, family and friends will be invited. A date for this event will be advertised shortly.
Congratulations
The staff had an impromptu celebration after-school on Monday after Mr Rattenbury announced he was engaged as of last Sunday. On behalf of the staff and the school community I just want to wish Paul and his fiancée Rebecca, every happiness as they plan their future together, congratulations!

There have been one or two ‘close calls’ lately. Please can you make every effort to park and drive safely around the school property at the beginning and end of the day. There are two areas of particular concern that I would like to highlight:
