Wednesday 16th June may well be remembered in New Zealand sporting history for a famous goal scored in South Africa but for some children, parents and staff at VAS it may also be remembered as their longest ever school day!
Many were awake before 6.00am to get ready for our first World Cup Breakfast. BBQs were already busy cooking up bacon, and the coffee man was doing steady business by the time the All Whites game kicked off on the big screen in the hall. The children brought pillows and beanbags and had great fun eating breakfast with their friends before the sun came up. Of course you can imagine how the hall erupted when the famous goal went in seconds before the end of the game…a perfect start to the day - my thanks to all who supported this event, and particularly to the parents who organised the morning.
Fourteen hours after many awoke a large contingent from Viccy Ave were just leaving the Telstra Clear Events Centre in Manukau after a fabulous evening at the Kids for Kids concert organised in support of World Vision. Through these concerts, now in their 16th year, World Vision wants Kiwi children to enjoy the experience of performing live on stage and, with their families, help change the lives of children living in poverty through Child Sponsorship.
This Top of the World show featured songs from pop icons such as Michael Jackson and Abba to older classics like The Carpenters, Paul McCartney and Frank Sinatra.Thirty-seven members of the VAS school choir joined around 400 other children from across Auckland on stage with Suzanne Prentice in a colourful and hugely entertaining concert. As teachers and parents we were incredibly proud of our children who performed beautifully. Their hard work and preparation, and that of Alison Laxon, was clearly evident, as was the joy on the faces of all the performers.
There may well have been a few bleary eyes around the breakfast tables this morning but it was worth it; well done everyone!
Uniform New PE Uniforms Orders
• online until the 23rd June,
• at school on Tuesday 22 June, between 8.15 and 8.45am, and between 3.00 and 3.30pm.
The new PE uniform comprises dri-fit navy shorts, and a dri-fit top specific to your child’s house. Due to the range of sizes/colours, we are not holding stock of the PE uniform, therefore it is only available each time the school advertises that an order is being made.
The close-off date for the next order (including payment) is Wednesday 23 June, to ensure delivery in time for our school cross-country. The final opportunity to order will be later in the year, with the PE uniform becoming compulsory for all students (Y0-Y6) from Term 1 2011.
Orders may be made via our online shop.
Alternatively, on Tuesday 22 June, we will have a set of samples for children to try on, at which time manual orders can be made (payment by EFTPOS/cash/cheque). These will be available in the meeting room by the office, on Tuesday 22 June, between 8.15 and 8.45am, and between 3.00 and 3.30pm.
As the school will not be holding stock of these items, exchanges will not be possible, so please ensure that you order the correct colour and size.
Any completed orders received after Wed 23 June will be held back for the final 2010 order later in the year. For children not purchasing the new uniform until the final 2010 order, the existing rules will continue to apply.
Uniform
We would really appreciate your support in maintaining a high standard of appearance. This year is somewhat of a transition with older uniform items being replaced by new, resulting in a mix of styles. However we have noticed several children wearing non-uniform items and colours recently. If you are unsure of the current requirements the uniform list is available here. After School Care Survey – Survey Deadline ~ closing Monday 21 June.
In case you missed it last week - due to the imminent retirement of Barbara Hale the Board of Trustees are currently looking at alternative providers for families requiring After School Care. As part of this process we would like to gain feedback from the parent community. We would like to hear views from current, past and perhaps future users of an after-school programme to help inform our decision-making.
A short online survey has been designed and should only take a couple of minutes to complete. The survey is open now and will close on Monday 21st June. Please take the time to respond to this request; your feedback will be much appreciated. Thank you to those who have already taken the time to take part in the survey.
Click here for the Survey Link. Please note this link does not seem to be working with Firefox. If you open the newsletter in Safari or possibly Explorer it works fine.
Kind regards
