Trees for Survival Update and Appeal.
Last week the much anticipated Trees For Survival unit arrived in school and has been positioned near the class gardens. Along with the unit came approximately 600 seedlings that we are going to nuture for a full year before planting them on a designated farm. During the year the children will have opportunities to learn about the different native species that they are caring for, measure them, record and analyse data relating to success rates, develop an understanding of environmental issues such as erosion and invasive species and secure their understanding of plant growth, needs and life cycles.

Next week the Year 3 classes are going to begin the growing on process by transferring the delicate seedlings into root trainers and are very excited about this chance to develop our ‘green fingers’! Whilst we have been supplied with all the necessary compost, root trainers and stands we are looking for the following donations,
     • tarpulins – to place on the ground where the children are working
     • pallets, approximately 12, to raise the floor level in the shed and place alongside the plant unit to improve the children’s reach.
If you are able to supply either of these items please contact Frances Coleman in Room 16 -  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

BASKETBALL RESULTS
A fast and furious game was had by the Vulcans, they worked really hard right to the bitter end, never giving up, but unfortunately they didn't come out triumphant. St. Kents took the lead, Mr Peter's our stand-in coach called two time outs which brought the team back into regroup mode and set us up with Sarah and Luca scoring our baskets. A great game Vulcans and big thank you to Jan and Fraser for playing a second game for us.

VAS Vikings played Cornwall Park B on Monday night and lost. Ruby Cotter and Maddi Devereux had a great game. Jan Carson and Emma Collard scored our baskets.

VAS Year 6 team lost against a fast and strong Cornwall Park A team. The score did not reflect on the determination and effort of the players in our Year 6 team. Well done!

FLIPPABALL
Another great game last Sunday. The team is playing with some real structure and getting the idea of positional play.
Next game: 5.05pm Meadowbank versus Victoria Ave.
