Luka is a cheerful, well-mannered member of our class with a positive attitude towards learning. He takes an active interest in other people, both staff and students, and he always wears a smile.
Luka consistently works towards achieving his ‘best always’ and his ability to produce work of both quality and quantity is continually increasing.
He is a good friend to many in Room 19, as well as students from other classes, showing fairness when participating in group activities and games. Luka is an honest and trustworthy person.

Have you ever noticed that Joanne just never stops smiling? Even during the Athletics day, I am sure I could spot a glimmer of Joanne's gorgeous smile at all times!
Room 8 are so lucky to have such a happy and fun person in their class.
Joanne always tries her best in class and works really hard in all subjects. You should see how neat her handwriting has become!
Joanne is such a kind and caring friend and she loves to help her classmates.
When we visit the library, can you guess where we find Joanne....? In the joke book section! She loves to find some hilarious jokes to share with us to give us a giggle.

Congratulations Josh, you are the deserving recipient of Pupil of the Week!
With your wonderful sense of humour you are a constant source of delight in our class. We love the way you always find the good from any situation, and you don’t take life too seriously. Whenever you get that famous twinkle in your eye we know you are about to crack out another Josh Hamilton joke or impersonation to make us laugh.
Everyone knows that you are an amazing athlete and actor - but we bet they didn’t know that you show that same determination and skill with your school-work too! You have made us super proud of the effort you’ve put into all areas of the curriculum and the progress you’ve made show us just how dedicated you are.

Annie is a delightful and valued member of Room 5.
Her hard work is reflected in her writing for which she has a real passion.
Annie always exceeds the highest standards set and her work shows a person who takes great pride in their accomplishments.
Her friendly nature means she is never more than happy to

Annie is extremely mature and is a role model for others in the school.

Andrew Hickman ~ Room 4
What can I say about this absolutely delicious boy! He has a quiet yet wicked sense of humour that he has kept hidden from us in Room 4 for most of the year. Luckily, finally he has let us see him for the quirky kid that we all love. At times he makes us double over with pain from all the belly laughing!
It has been an absolute delight to see him strive to do his very successful best.
Andrew is sensitive to the needs of others and is always one of the first to lend a hand.
Not forgetting the super athlete he is!
Room 4 are proud of Andrew and his achievements this year, and we would like to wish him the best of luck for his new adventure next year.

Room 9 would like to introduce Jonathan Sayal as our Pupil of the Week!
Jonathan always comes to school with a delightful smile on his face.
He is friendly to all and is kind and caring. Jonathan is always willing to lend a hand to his fellow classmates and his teacher.
He shows fantastic manners and sits on the mat with such a
straight back it is as if he is made of steel!
Jonathan listens carefully to his teacher, which shows in his schoolwork, especially writing. He seems to have turned into a writing machine!

Room 8 are incredibly lucky to have someone as smiley and happy as Maddy in our class!
Maddy is such a gorgeous friend, always helping those in need and letting others join in her games.
Every week Maddy makes sure she has worked hard to learn her spelling words, and she always strives to do her very best in every subject area.
Maddy is a whizzy reader and wow, you should see the amazing stories she writes! She really is a writing machine.
Maddy also loves sports, and she puts in a great effort at PE and junior sport.
We love having Maddy in Room 8, thank you for being such a super friend.

Stella Lam - Room 6
Congratulations to Stella Lam, our deserving Room 6 pupil of the week! Stella is one of those gorgeous girls who can be depended on 100% of the time. She is always doing the right thing, at the right time in the right place!
Stella is the epitome of our school motto ‘Our Best Always’.
A gentle and sincere student, Stella quietly gets on with her work without creating fuss or requiring extra attention. A kind-hearted friend she shows compassion and concern to others without being over-bearing or interfering.
She has a great sense of humour and is such a fun person to be around, with her gentle laugh and light-up-the-room smile.
Stella is simply a superstar in every way possible, and we love having her in our class, congratulations from all of us in Room 6.
Max Jennings ~ Room 5
Max is an enthusiastic and motivated learner who approaches all new learning opportunities with interest.
He questions thoughtfully, listens attentively and perseveres to answer his inquiries with detail and good understanding. Max manages his time effectively.
He takes pride in all he does and always strives to achieve his very best.
Max works cooperatively on group tasks. He accepts a wide range of responsibilities, which Max fulfils admirably.

Renee Domazet, what can we say about this truly wonderful individual.
Renee is a pupil that walks into the classroom like the sun has just come up in the morning, she is warm and bubbly in personality, kind and caring in nature and helpful to all in need.
She is determined to work to the best of her ability, demonstrating to others what 'Our Best Always' looks like.
There is never a time when we cannot count on Renee being best friends to everyone.

Rory Holmes ~ Room 3
It is a pleasure to have Rory in our class. He always has a huge grin on his face, making us want to smile back at him. His even natured disposition allows him to work well with others. This means that he achieves good results in his IBL and any other group work.
Rory has excellent manners and always acts responsibly in any situation. He listens attentively and then settles to work independently fulfilling what is required of him.

Kayla is a charismatic, dedicated student who consistently displays the qualities required to succeed in life.
By studying hard and applying herself she has achieved a good understanding in all areas of the curriculum. She completes her work promptly and to a high standard.
She takes the time to balance her studious nature with the ability to engage with her peers. These wonderful skills enable her to secure strong friendships.

Dominic Domazet ~ Room 18
Room 18 are so lucky to have such a kind and caring class member as our Dom D.
He comes to school equipped with a positive attitude and a gorgeous smile that lights up his whole face.
It has been a pleasure watching Dominic’s confidence grow this year, and we love how he is always reliable, polite, and willing to give everything a go.
He is very inquisitive, always questioning and sharing his
imaginative ideas and opinions.
Dominic has a quiet and gentle nature, making him a fair and considerate friend to all. He is a natural peacemaker, and will always provide support and encouragement to his peers.
Although he may not be the biggest child in the class,
he certainly has a big heart.

Hamish McLaren ~ Room 20
Room Twenty is both lucky and proud to have Hamish as their pupil of the week. He is a delightful and caring young man as well as a great friend to everyone in the class. Hamish uses the most amazing manners and it is guaranteed that he will always be in the right place at the right time. Hamish works hard to make everyone in our class feel special and he often looks to help other people in any way that he can.
Hamish works diligently, thinks a lot and focuses on producing his best possible results all the time. He is both supportive and encouraging to all his peers and he takes an active role in our discussions, often sharing his own experiences with us all. Hamish always does his best and is certainly a fine ambassador for the school and example of the Victoria Avenue School motto.
Hamish is fantastic. He is a well-respected member of our class, the Middle Syndicate and indeed our entire school.
We are all truly lucky to have someone like him to share our school days with.

Jane Schellekens ~ Room 19
Room 19 are proud to celebrate Jane as their pupil of the week…congratulations!
Jane is a remarkable student. She is always cheerful, well mannered, and shows an enjoyment of school. She can also make her face turn red like a tomato!!! She has a good balance of knowing when it’s okay to be funny in class and also when it’s time to settle down and be sensible.
She relates well to others, showing empathy towards students in our class and in the playground.
Jane has a positive attitude towards learning and will give anything a go. She is the kind of student who will listen to what the teacher says, think about it, then go away and try it, often with great success. She regularly finishes work to the best of her abilities. Jane especially enjoys books and likes to talk about the latest adventures she is reading about.

We are very lucky to have Phoebe in Room 17. She is an outstanding role model of our school motto “Our Best Always”. Phoebe is a capable student, who always settles quickly, and whatever the task, completes it well and to the best of her ability. She willingly assists others when required, often without being asked.
She has a gentle, modest nature and a lovely smile. Phoebe is polite, responsible and considerate of others, making her popular with all of her classmates.
She readily contributes to, and confidently participates in, all class activities.
Phoebe is a lovely caring, helpful and reliable class member.

Marc Ng ~ Room 16
When you arrive in Room 16 you soon notice Marc, he is the quiet, hard working boy sitting at his desk focusing on his activity, whatever else may be happening around the room!
The most noticeable thing about Marc is his positive outlook, and real desire to learn and achieve, which allows him to maximise his learning each and every day. He is a fantastic role model with a gentle, calm and unassuming nature.
Marc is always willing to help anybody who asks for it and readily accepts any responsibility he is given. When he is working in a group Marc will listen carefully to everybody and will offer his own carefully thought through ideas.
Room 16 are very glad to have Marc as part of their learning community and know that he will continue to be a kind friend to everyone in the class and anyone else at VAS who wants one.

How could we not choose Grace for our pupil of the week? She is a dream pupil!
If ever you need a job done well, Grace is your lady.
She has the most impeccable manners and is kind to everyone.
Grace has also made so much progress with her learning this year, she is a whiz reader and mathematician.
And as if that wasn't enough, Grace took out first place in cross country today.
Well done Grace, what a star!
Room 14’s Pupil of the Week is Lucy Nevill. Lucy is an outstanding candidate for this award because she is the complete all-rounder. Inside and outside the classroom, Lucy works hard, while enjoying the company of her peers and adults alike.
She is an independent worker with a mature outlook on life, far beyond her years. She faces new academic challenges with a quiet confidence and enthusiasm. She enjoys all aspects of her school day, and always tries to complete her work accurately. She displays an artistic flair and demands high standards of herself. She works to the best of her ability in all curriculum areas.
Lucy is enthusiastic about sport. She enjoys competing with others, but has a keen sense of fair play.
She is a good and loyal friend, always willing to help others. She is reliable and thoughtful, and fully deserves to be Room 14’s Pupil of the Week.

Holly Barker ~ Room 12
Holly is a bubbly, enthusiastic member of Room 12, who comes to school each day ready to learn and to make new friends out on the playground.
Holly cares about others. She loves to play with her own friends but is always willing to include new friends in her games. When she knows that someone has been lonely at playtime she will always come forward to look after them.
Holly is a good learner. She works hard and listens carefully. She is also a writing machine! Holly is so determined to finish her stories that she would keep on writing all through morning tea if her teacher didn’t remind her to go outside.

Fraser McLaren ~ Room 11
Room 11 is extremely lucky! Let us tell you why. We have Fraser in our class. Perhaps you have not met Fraser yet. You should listen closely.
He is a caring, thoughtful and encouraging friend to everyone.
If anyone needs help Fraser happily offers it. He loves learning everything and anything. He always knows what he is working on and then he practises and practises until he can do his new task without ever giving up.
His work is always, always his best.
Fraser is definitely a shining star in our room.

Amazing Alice! From the very first day of school, Alice has had her brilliant smile set on full power. She goes out of her way to help others and has the most outstanding manners. Alice is super friendly, greeting everyone she sees in the corridor with a lovely “Good morning” or “Good afternoon” and a huge smile. She also greets every teacher by name, which is pretty impressive!
Alice is an extremely hard worker. She is a self-motivated and diligent student who tries her absolute best in all that she does. She settles into tasks quickly and always produces high quality work. Her focus, dedication to learning and her constant strive for excellence, are all things to be greatly admired.
Room 1 are very lucky to have such a creative, kind and happy person like Alice in our class. She is an absolute pleasure to teach and brightens each day with her positive outlook on things. We are so proud of what Alice has achieved so far this year, and look forward to seeing her reach her goals in the future. Alice, you truly are amazing!
Will O’Shannessey ~ Room 20

Louis Houtman ~ Room 13
Louis Houtman is Room 13’s pupil of the week. He is amazing!
He is such a super role model – he listens carefully, he works quietly, and his manners are impeccable. Of course, he is a good friend too, because, not only is he kind, he has a great sense of humour.
Louis has made huge progress with his learning too, and that is because he perseveres with everything!

Harriet Campbell ~ Room 14
In February this year, Harriet came to Victoria Avenue School from the United States, where she had lived with her family.
She settled quickly into life in Room 14 and soon made friends.
She has a cheerful, positive outlook on life, and her sunny personality has endeared her to all.
She is independent, mature and reliable.
She tackles her work with enthusiasm and confidence, and always tries to do her best. She is imaginative in her thinking and creative artistically.

Dominic Turnbull ~ Room 12
Dominic is a kind, friendly little boy who loves to share and play with his Room 12 friends. He starts each day with a warm smile which gets us all off to a great start!
Dominic is pretty nifty on the computer and can log on to Ultranet independently to explore different games and activities. He is also able to trouble-shoot for his friends when they are stuck, and will quietly help them out.
Dominic can think for himself and use his initiative to solve a problem; he doesn’t just sit and wait for the teacher to do it for him. He knows when to listen, when to talk and when to focus on his task. This attitude and behaviour makes him a good learner.
Dominic, you are a great member of Room 12 and we are delighted to have

We are so proud to have Yonghua as our Pupil of the Week
He is a conscientious student who settles to tasks quickly and quietly, endeavouring to do his best.

Miss McQuinn and Room 4 are happy to announce that Enoch is our

James is a valued and popular member of Room 2.
He has an amazing ability to make his entire class roll on the floor in stitches...laughing. His humour and cheeky grin will capture anyone’s attention.

Jan Carson ~ Room 6
It is an easy choice to select Jan Carson as the Room 6 pupil of the week! He is an outstanding student who is the kind of boy that any adult would be proud to call their son. He is so helpful, friendly, courteous and well mannered – without ever being prompted.
Jan has the kind of personality that cheers up anyone around him. He has a quick wit and enjoys cracking jokes in the classroom. When it’s time to get his work done, Jan manages himself carefully to complete tasks to a high standard, always trying his best.
Not only a great friend, super student and role model – Jan is also an awesome athlete and has shown great improvement in his basketball skills.

Larissa Kiyoto-Ward ~ Room 1
Lovely Larissa. From the first day of school, Larissa has had her gorgeous smile on full beam! She is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and never forgets her manners. Larissa treats everyone with kindness and consideration.
Larissa is the most amazing dancer! She spends a lot of her spare time winning dancing competitions. But no matter how busy Larissa is outside of school she is always a hard working, self-motivated and diligent student who tries her absolute best in all that she does. She settles into tasks quickly and always produces high quality work. Her focus, dedication to learning and her constant strive for excellence, are all things to be greatly admired.
Larissa is an absolute pleasure to teach and is a very valued member of Room 1! It is so wonderful to have such a creative, vibrant and caring person like Larissa in our class! Larissa, you should be extremely proud of all that you have achieved so far this year. We all look forward to seeing you reach and exceed your goals in the future!
Thomas Riesterer ~ Room 21
Thomas is a conscientious and hardworking pupil who deserves recognition for his excellent work ethic, progress and achievement.

Ben King ~ Room 19
Room 19 are proud to celebrate Ben as their pupil of the week…congratulations!
Ben is a cheerful, well-mannered member of our class with a good sense of humour. He shows an interest in learning new things and he has maintained good work habits so far this year.
Ben consistently works towards achieving his ‘best always’ and his ability to produce work of both quality and quantity is continually increasing. He is a good friend to many Room 19 students, as well as students from other classes.

Sophie Glynn ~ Room 20
Room 20 students are privileged to have Sophie as their pupil of the week.
She is a friendly and enthusiastic support to all the students in the middle school and she always has a bright welcoming smile to each and every person she meets.
Sophie works diligently and focuses on producing the best possible results in all that she does. She selflessly assists others, and tries hard to ensure that everyone gets a fair deal and an equal chance to do things.
Sophie’s attitude to all things is a credit to her. She is an extremely valued and important member of the Middle Syndicate, Room 20 and the entire

Trenyce Fia ~ Room 18
Introducing our superstar, Trenyce Fia!
Trenyce is a fantastic role model to her peers each day.
She is a focussed and conscientious student, who strives to do her best in whatever she endeavours to do. She is an active listener who confidently shares her ideas and participates in all class discussions.
Trenyce is a caring and thoughtful member of our class, always willing to be a friend to those around her. She is extremely reliable, and lends a helping hand to anyone without hesitation, including Miss Manu!
She has the most impeccable manners, especially while sitting on the mat. She comes into class with an energetic and positive attitude and a friendly greeting for everyone.

Rebecca Redman ~ Room 16
Rebecca, you have only been at VAS for a short while but in the time that you
have been in Room 16 you have shown us all that you understand exactly what it means to do
‘Our Best Always’.
You work with great determination and persistence always striving to improve you skills and extend your confidence. Even when you find things tough you work on, asking for help and trying again.
You are kind and gentle with everyone you meet and have the most fantastic manners. You are very helpful in class and all the teachers know that they can rely on you.
All of Room 16 know that you will be their friend and that you will always help them to feel better if they are down.
Room 16 is very proud of you Rebecca and we are delighted to have you as part of our learning community. Well done!
Jack MacGill ~ Room 17
Jack is a considerate, polite student who has learned to readily settle to tasks and remain focused, completing them on time and to the best of his ability.
He has developed a positive attitude to all his learning.
He readily contributes to our learning community, sharing his ideas and knowledge while respecting the views of others.
Jack is popular with his peers and tries to do his best always.

Matthew Mellett ~ Room 14
Matthew tries his best in all areas of his school life and he is making good academic progress.
He displays great aptitude and enthusiasm on the sports field,
already being a devoted fan of cricket.
He is becoming increasingly independent and self-sufficient, and enjoys engaging in new tasks.
Matthew is a boy who faces life’s challenges with maturity and common sense. He deals with difficulties quietly and without fuss.
Matthew is a cheerful and friendly classmate to all. Popular with others, he enjoys being involved in all our classroom activities.
He fully deserves to be Room 14’s Pupil of the Week.

Kate Irwin ~ Room 12
Kate has not been at Victoria Avenue School very long but Room 12 are delighted to have her in their class.
Kate is a great girl to have around. She is caring and friendly to all members of the class, and is quick to spot a friend who needs a helping hand.
Kate demonstrates nice manners and exercises self-control in all situations. She is attentive and always models good learning behaviour
for her classmates.
With her big smile and lovely sense of fun, Kate knows how to
enjoy whatever she is doing.

Bria Cotton ~ Room 13
Room 13 are so proud that Bria is our pupil of the week!
She has superb manners and tries her best in everything. She takes her learning very seriously and can always be trusted to be in the right place at the right time.
What a role model!
She knows the meaning of top quality too, her illustrations are just lovely!
And on top of all that, Bria is also a super helper in the classroom too, nothing is too much trouble.

Emily Cosham ~ Room 11
Emily has just started at school this term and already she demonstrates her best always.
She knows how to make friends and how to help others. When new students start she kindly offers to look after them and she keeps to her word.
She settles down to her tasks and almost nothing can distract her.
She tries to improve her work every single day.
Emily is a star student in our school already we are so pleased she in our class!
Lachlan West ~ Room 8
Lachlan comes to school with a passion to learn everyday.
He has a very inquisitive mind and loves to discover new things, and he is great at sharing
his findings with the class.
Lachlan is an organised learner, and is always arrives ready to start the school day.
He quickly picked up the routines of his new class, and is often found helping others who are unsure.
Lachlan is bubbly and friendly and always lets others join him in learning tasks and at play times.
He has amazing manners, and shows respect towards adults and his peers at all times.

This week Room 6 is very proud to announce that Ji Yeon Min is our
Pupil of the Week.
Ji Yeon only arrived in New Zealand from Korea this year, and already she has learned an incredible amount of English and has made many friends because she always tries her very best and gives everything a go.
Even after being in a new country, and in a new class for only three weeks Ji Yeon was brave enough to come along to Camp Hunua. This meant a whole week of speaking English, eating kiwi food and doing outdoor activities, - tough enough for many of the Year 6 kids, but an even tougher and amazing achievement for Ji Yeon.
Ji Yeon approaches all new learning with great enthusiasm, and gives it her best effort. She has a great big smile, which is always on her friendly face. Every day Ji Yeon works well with her friends and follows instructions carefully. We love having her in our class, and she is an asset to our school.

Jackie is a valued member of Room 9’s learning community.
